In “Magic Always Happens: My Daddy Loves Me!” a father and son develop a bond just from living out their daily routine—from waking, making breakfast, walking to school, doing homework, making dinner, to getting ready for bed. Hidden in those seemingly mundane tasks are the magical moments of their day. While Neo was born and raised on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus—a world away from his son’s upbringing in the New York metropolis, his experience reflected in “Magic Always Happens: My Daddy Loves Me!” shows the impermeable bond between father and son spending time together, wherever in the world that may be.

Full-time single father Neophytos (Neo) Papaneophytou drew from the fun times raising his son in Hoboken, New Jersey to write “MAGIC ALWAYS HAPPENS.” Seeing every day as a blessing, Neo and his son find joy in all of their daily activities, especially when their two-year-old therapy dog, Mya, joins in their life and play! A child psychologist and academic, Neo works with children in his clinical practices in Manhattan and Kingston, New York, with his clinical focus from a developmental perspective. Neo holds multiple licenses in mental health in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., and Georgia. He also has been teaching child, developmental, and social psychology at the City University of New York since 2000 and has contributed to numerous psychology textbooks, and is already working on his next children’s book. Fluent in both Greek and English, with some limited working knowledge of Spanish, Neo was born and raised in the picturesque Mediterranean port town of Limassol, Cyprus. Neo moved to Lancaster, England to earn his first two degrees in marketing & international relations before immigrating to the United States in 1999, where he would go on to earn his second and third Master’s degrees in industrial & clinical psychology, as well his doctoral degree in clinical psychology. Neo is a postgraduate fellow of the infant-parent mental health program at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and a graduate fellow with the NYU Psychoanalytic Institute department of psychiatry in New York. Neo is also a member of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC), the American Counseling Association (ACA), and the American Psychological Association (APA). He is both a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Distance Credentialed Counselor (DCC). Neo has had extensive training in conducting forensic evaluations with children and maintains a strong interest in issues pertinent to child abuse and neglect. Starting in 2015, Neo aspires to contribute to the establishment of an international center for autism treatment and research in Cyprus. In his spare time, Neo dabbles in horticulture, primarily growing tomato plants with his son in their small, but light-filled, apartment. He also enjoys music and theater, as well as swimming and running. He has completed two New York City half marathons for charity, as well as the full NYC marathon in 2010.
