Freedom…it’s what we all long for; that weightless feeling of “sky’s the limit” and dropping into bed at the end of the day with a peaceful smile on our face as we drift off to sleep like a content baby. So how do we break free from the negative things in our lives that keep us in captivity? So often in life we feel trapped, immobilized and ineffective at overcoming that which is keeping us from experiencing a joyful, peaceful, and fulfilled life. Don’t lose hope! There is a formula for freedom that is available to anyone who desires it. KNOW GOD: This is where the journey must start. We must not just know God as He is explained to us by others; we must get to know Him personally…one on one…in the specific way He wants each of us to get to know Him. The way we get to know God is by reading about Him in the Bible. Through the inspired Scriptures, He reveals to us His attributes and character. As we discipline ourselves to daily spend time in His Word, communicate with Him in prayer, and quiet ourselves before Him so that we can hear Him speak to us, we will come to know God personally. We can never know everything about God, we will continue to learn more about Him and grow in our relationship with Him throughout the rest of our lives. God deeply desires for us to know Him. LOVE GOD: As we come to truly know God, we understand how incredible His love is for us, and in turn, we love God. If we love God, we want to live our lives in a manner that pleases Him. We recognize the sacrifice He made for us, and we desire to show Him we love Him in every aspect of our lives. We cannot love God if we don’t know Him. TRUST GOD: This one is a biggie. Yes, easier said than done. However, if we are struggling in this area, we need to go back and strengthen our practice of the first two steps. The more we know Him, the more we will love Him. The more we comprehend God’s character and love for us, we will see that there is no fear in trusting God. He really does care about us, and has a good plan for our lives. God’s ways are higher than ours, and we don’t always understand the way He works, but we can have confidence He is working, and all things work together for the good of those who love Him. OBEY GOD: This is where the rubber meets the road. If we know God, we love Him AND we trust Him… then there is no other proper response than to obey Him. Whatever He is telling us to do. We know at this point that He is loving and trustworthy, and He has our best interest in mind. I encourage you to take that step of faith and obey, even if it’s hard, even if it’s scary, even if it’s painful…He promises to bring you through it to victory. Freedom’s Formula is 100% guaranteed…however, wrapped up into knowing, loving, trusting and obeying God is a choice…a decision every individual must make for themselves. Do you believe? Do you believe Jesus is the Son of God, sent to earth fully man and fully God, perfect without sin, and died on a cross to take every sin you ever have or will commit upon Himself, so that you may have forgiveness and eternal life in heaven? He was raised from the dead, victorious over sin, and the greatest example of an Overcomer that we will ever know. This gift of salvation is free to every person, but it must be individually accepted. If you believe and desire to live your life as a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ, then all you have to do is tell God that you believe what He did for you, acknowledge your need for a Savior, and accept His forgiveness. At that moment, He comes inside you through the Holy Spirit to give you the power to live the life of an overcomer. The very first commandment Jesus gives to those who believe is to be baptized. If this decision is authentic in our lives, we will want to follow through with baptism as soon as possible. When we obey God, we unleash the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. As we walk in obedience, we receive more and more of the power we need to become the warriors every Christian is called to be. This isn’t a life for sissies. Surrendered Christians will be the fiercest warriors you will ever meet as they draw from the power God gives them, using the gifts He has given them, to fulfill the purpose He has given them. Boring? Hardly. Bold? Definitely! When you begin living your life by faith, following Freedom’s Formula, you will NEVER want to live any other way. Start your journey to Freedom today! Pamela Werner enjoyed growing up surrounded by the cornfields of southern Michigan with her parents and two sisters. Her imagination was quite active from an early age, and she loved creative outlets such as singing, writing, and dreaming up unique ideas. Her family was very involved in Christian radio ministry, and in her high school years they were transferred to Tucson, Arizona. Over the course of the next 30 years, real life occurred. There was marriage, two amazing sons, her mother’s victorious battle with cancer, the devastating loss of her father to cancer, divorce, career changes….fear, insecurity, loneliness, struggles, victories, forgiveness, hope, healing….new love, and new life. She is grateful for those life experiences that shaped her into the person she is today, a joyful surrendered soul. The poetic words that flow from her heart are only written on paper because God is her inspiration.
